Although knights in heavy armors and feudal systems have passed away long time ago, the knightly ideal is still alive. Both old and modern orders of chivalry keep alive the old knightly traditions and the knighthood virtues which are still very important in our present days.

Many orders of chivalry have been founded and it is not easy to differentiate the serious ones from profit oriented pseudo orders. Some of the serious orders can prove their legitimation by some sort of church acceptance or through noble patrons, even if they come from a country which is a republic. The old orders of chivalry on the other hand are very exclusive and it is hard to enter them without good connections or large donations. We believe that there must be other ways for the legitimation of humanistic orders of chivalry in a mostly secular and democratic world.

The Humanistic Federation of Chivalry is a Union of orders of chivalry on the basis of Liberty, Equality (before the law) and Fraternity as well as the common knightly ideal. This is realy the foundation for all modern orders of chivalry, because in an absolutistic monarchy or theocraty no order could be founded by free men.
